Introduction to Artistic Research
Summary
Are you curious about how artistic processes can be used to create new knowledge and understanding? This course offers an introduction to artistic research – a growing field of research in which artistic practices are used to explore, articulate and critically engage with questions relating to art, society and human experience.
About
Through current examples from Sweden and internationally, you will gain an overview of the contemporary research landscape and an understanding of what artistic research is, how it is conducted and the different forms it can take. You will explore how research projects are formulated, motivated and communicated across different artistic disciplines, and how they relate to broader cultural and societal contexts.
During the course, you will develop tools for analysing research methods, working processes and forms of presentation within artistic research. You will also have the opportunity to formulate your own research idea and reflect on its methodological and contextual conditions.
Introduction to Artistic Research also provides a foundation for the freestanding follow-up course Writing a Research Plan in Artistic Research.
Teaching hours: Classes are held mainly on Tuesdays, 18:00–21:00 Swedish time (CET/CEST).

The course is aimed at artists, cultural practitioners and others who want to deepen their understanding of artistic research and its possibilities. It is suitable both for those who want to gain an introduction to the field and for those considering developing their own research projects.

Entry requirements
A Bachelor's Degree of at least 180 credits.
Selection
Selection is based upon the number of credits from previous university studies, maximum 285 credits
