Course description
The course highlights the importance of an intersectional analysis in the field of migration studies. It explores a range of scholarly debates on how international migration and mobilities can be theorized and researched empirically using the intersectional approach. The course trains students’ ability to identify and analyse empirical material through the intersections of ethnicity, gender, class, generation, sexuality and citizenship and other relevant power axes. During the course, students are introduced to a set of research cases, examining for example, families and migration, gendered and aged aspects of migration, privileged , racialised and war-driven (im)mobilities, health and work-related migration, etc. Students will engage with important questions pertaining to transforming European migration regimes, belonging and social exclusion/ inclusion as well as to the emerging forms of mobilisation and civil society responses related to mobility and migration.
