University of Gothenburg

Organisation

The Secretariat is a national unit at the University of Gothenburg, reports to the Vice-Chancellor and collaborates with other national units within the University.

The work is led by a director who decides on the implementation of activities and the distribution of tasks and roles.

Around fifteen people work at the Secretariat, with expertise in areas such as research, analysis, coordination, collaboration, communication and project management.

Several of the secretariat's analysts have doctoral degrees and expertise in fields such as work science, sociology, gender studies, philosophy and educational work. Our employees have experience of participating in various collaborative projects for national, Nordic and European assignments.

Focus areas

Our research-based activities are mainly focused on and organised within three focus areas, which interact with each other: A free knowledge society, A just and fair working life and An equal Nordic region.

A large part of our Nordic activities take place within the framework of NIKK – Nordic Information on Gender. NIKK is a collaborative body under the Nordic Council of Ministers, located at the secretariat on behalf of the Nordic ministers for gender equality since 2012. Within this assignment, the Secretariat compiles and disseminates research, policy, knowledge and practice in the field of gender equality from a Nordic and cross-sectoral perspective.

We use and develop different scientific perspectives and methods in our work, based on international research on gender, power and sustainability. Collaboration with other researchers and expert organisations strengthens our knowledge production, collaboration and communication.
