A forest is a dense web of interdependencies: roots, fungi, soil, insects, decay and renewal. Nothing exists on its own. Grass bends and rises again. Ferns unfold. Fireflies appear briefly as darkness falls. Rocks store time differently from bodies. In the forest, everything participates in a network of connections that is constantly shifting, mutating, becoming.

This exhibition brings together work in progress by fifteen artists studying the MFA Fine Art programme at HDK-Valand — Academy of Art and Design in partnership with Kulturhuset Bergsjön. It presents artistic practice as a field of nodes and relations: spaces where structures can soften, assumptions can be questioned, and forms of collaboration and feedback can emerge.

Through installations, gestures, and gatherings, the artists explore how knowledge circulates between bodies, materials, dust, communities and environments. Rituals and collective moments unfold as tools for rethinking how we organise ourselves together. Becoming a Forest presents the atmosphere in which the artists publicly experiment with selected elements of their projects. What happens when the process of experimentation becomes more important than fixed “outcomes”? When knowledge and culture are recognised as plural, distributed across bodies, materials and experiences? When organisations and groups of people behave more like ecosystems?

Some works invite participation, and others create spaces for observation, curiosity or reflection. Some were developed through workshops and conversations with local Bergsjön communities, workers and visitors to the cultural centre. They are spread across several spaces at Kulturhuset Bergsjön and take place at different times. Rather than offering answers, this exhibition proposes a series of encounters: points of contact where different forms of learning, exchange, experience and matter meet, embracing complexities.
