About the event:

Eric Benchimol is a pediatric gastroenterologist at The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) in Toronto and professor of pediatrics and epidemiology at University of Toronto. He is an internationally leading researcher in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) in children and adolescents, particularly in epidemiology and registry-based research. His work has significantly advanced understanding of disease burden, incidence, and long-term outcomes in IBD, and he has a strong focus on the transition from pediatric to adult care.

The presentation Transition from pediatric to adult care for IBD: From evidence to practice will address the critical period when adolescents and young adults with IBD transition from pediatric to adult care. This phase involves changing needs and an increased risk of adverse outcomes. Eric Benchimol will highlight medical, psychosocial, and system-level challenges that can complicate the transition.

The session will present evidence-based approaches, including structured transition programs, multidisciplinary care, and strategies to support patient self-management. It will also address current limitations in the evidence base and highlight emerging research.

The aim is to provide practical tools for translating research into clinical practice across different healthcare settings.
