About the seminar

Educators’ mathematical awareness and their practices are critical in supporting age-appropriate mathematical learning in ECEC context. I will present findings of the quantitative study, which investigated toddlers’ (children aged 0 to 3) mathematics education in the Finnish ECEC context. The study aimed to explore how frequent ECEC educators’ intentional mathematical skills teaching or use of mathematical concepts concerning toddlers’ teaching is, and if educators’ professional title or age is associated with frequencies. Survey data were collected from ECEC educators (N = 151), namely teachers in ECEC (n = 76) and childcarers in ECEC (n = 68), who participated in EarlyMath research project.
