Experimental animals

Special permits are required to work with vertebrates or cephalopods. They are granted by the Swedish Board of Agriculture.

Experiments that are carried out at the Tjärnö Marine Laboratory are processed in the Gothenburg Committee for Animal Ethics, and meetings are held about once a month but not in July. The application shall first be approved by the veterinarian and the person responsible for animal ethics at the Tjärnö Laboratory you want to conduct the experiment at. When the application is revised, the scientist shall send the application electronically to the committee.

Application for work shall be sent to the Tjärnö Laboratory at least one month before you plan to start your experiment. The administrative procedure is about four weeks.
