A GSF webinar: IT for innovation and job creation in low and middle income countries

Information technologies are transforming societies and offer immense opportunities for innovation. Despite rapid development of digital infrastructure and increased smart phone coverage across the globe the digital divide remains. While China and India are known for vibrant IT industries and software engineering jobs serving domestic and international markets, numerous other countries with less resources have developed the skills and the ideas on how to develop and benefit from IT solutions.

The role of IT for value-based maternal healthcare in low resource settings

Hawa Nyende is defending her dissertation in applied IT on Maternal health in Uganda on the 8th of June. She has spent half of her time as a doctoral student at the Department of Applied IT at the University of Gothenburg and half time at her home university, Makerere University in Uganda.

Impact of IT on job creation in low and middle income countries an idea on collaborative research

Michel Chaudron, is professor Software engineering, Dep of Computer Science and Engineering at Chalmers and University of Gothenburg. Michel is project coordinator for the BRIGHT project, a capacity building programme in Information and Communication Technology funded by Sida. Michel will briefly shed light on how other countries, including Uganda and Egypt are developing their industries and pitch an idea for collaborative research on IT and job creation. Following the discussion Michel and Hawa will briefly reflect on experiences for research collaboration between Chalmers/University of Gothenburg and Makerere, (Uganda) at top African University.
