MBW has long experience of family research and created the research programme Parenting and Childhood in Modern Family Culture. Variations in family forms and childhoods, gender and parental roles in family life, working life as well as everyday life is the core if the research. Among the completed projects in the programme three can be mentioned: Sharing Your Parents with A Foster Sibling. An Investigation of Foster Parents Own Children, Male Role Models in Social Work with Single Mothers and Sons and To start a family and earnings - a comparison between groups with different ethnic background. These are funded by the Swedish Research Council for Working Life and Social Sciences (FAS). MBW has been the Swedish coordinator in two EU funded projects. One eight country comparative project in the Fifth Framework Programme of the European Commission Gender, Parenthood and the Changing European Workplace: Young adults negotiating the work-family boundary is completed, but still under dissemination (www.workliferesearch.org/transitions) and the an eight country EU-funded project within the Sixth Framework Programme Quality of Life in a Changing Europe (www.projectquality.org).

A review-study of literature about children status, theory and practice.

Selected Recent Publications Two edited books with own contributions in Swedish during 2012, Nätverksfamiljen tillsammans med Thomas Johansson (The network Family)(Natur och kultur)och Att fostra familjen tillsammans med Helena Johansson (To govern the Family)(Liber).

Teaching Teaching experience on all levels. Most recent a mastercourse/PhD course on Family and Parenthood. At present involved in developing and teaching in an International Family Master a cooperation between several European Universities with start in Lisboa, Portugal. The international family master has been granted EU-money (MFAMILY.eu) and will start the fall semester 2013.

MB-W has tutored 19 PhD student to graduation and two to licenciate out of which eleven in the programme Parenting and Childhood in Modern Family Culture.
