Elise Tengs

Elise Tengs is a PhD candidate in Political Science at the University of Gothenburg. Her research is broadly focused on state building, public goods provision, and taxation. In her PhD thesis, she examines taxation as a mechanism for state building and accountable governments, and how this relationship is affected by corruption and clientelism.
She holds an MA in Political Science and a BA in Political Economics, both from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU). She has work experience from the Norwegian Embassy in Nepal, and has served at the board of Transparency International Norway. Prior to pursuing her PhD, Elise was a research associate at the Quality of Government Institute (QoG).
