Om Christina Hansen
Christina Hansen is an associate researcher at the Centre for Global Migration (CGM), School of Global Studies, within the EU Horizon 2020 project MERGING: Housing for immigrants and community integration in Europe and beyond: Strategies, policies, dwellings, and governance. The project brings together seven disciplines from ten partners from six European countries to test an innovative approach aiming to facilitate and ensure the sustainability of migrants’ integration process.
Hansen previously worked as project researcher at Malmö University within the EU Horizon 2020 project MIMY: Empowerment through liquid Integration of Migrant Youth in vulnerable conditions. The project took an innovative multi-method approach and placed young migrants at the centre of knowledge creation about their resilience, resistance and integration, and the impact of intersecting social inequalities.
Hansen holds a PhD in International Migration and Ethnic Relations (IMER). Her doctoral dissertation—Solidarity in Diversity: Activism as a Pathway of Migrant Emplacement in Malmö—, received the Dissertation of the Year Award 2020 at Malmö University. It examines how migration and neoliberal transformation of urban space are perceived and negotiated, using ethnographic methods and her own experiences of activism, with the focus on radical left activists’ collective actions. In particular, Hansen’s dissertation focuses on the practices of radical activism that may resist processes of displacement and dispossession by constructing alternative socio-economic structures and practices of commoning.
Christina Hansen's research interests are:
- Migration and ethnicity studies
