Om Arnaldur Stefansson

The main goal of my research is to understand how economic agents behave in order to cast light on how authorities should govern. My research projects so far have addressed questions within public, labour and behavioral economics, as well as the intersection of these two fields, and topics in welfare economics and ethics. To address these questions I have created my own data using laboratory and field experiments, as well as by exploiting natural experiments combined with administrative datasets.

In my work I have, among other things studied:

• labor supply adjustments to tax reforms and how frictions affect estimation of structural parameters.

• whether  neoclassical or prospect theory better describes tax filing behavior.

• what affects take-up of a housing allowance for low-income pensioners.

• the channels for aversion to uncertainty (ambiguity aversion).
