Sammanfattning

This study applies the concept of Knowledge Intensive Entrepreneurship to the field of fashion design. Through interviews with newly graduated fashion design students, the aim is to better understand the antecedents of going entrepreneurial, more specifically looking at what affects entrepreneurial intentions. The interviews show while early intentions of starting up a business are fairly common amongst the group as a whole, actual entrepreneurial behaviour is rare. A desire to change current industry structures and a feeling of not fitting into the current fashion system are held forward as triggering entrepreneurial intentions, a lack of business knowledge and finances hampers the actual entrepreneurial behaviour. In the cases of actual venture creation, links to achievements, such as winning awards, as well as the importance of networks stand out. The individuals going entrepreneurial also oftentimes combine their own firm creation with other part-time positions, either at established fashion firms or as teachers within higher education.
