Sammanfattning

Being sexually abused as a child can have severe consequences for the victim, both in the short and long term. But what are the consequences for those children who are abused online? The aim of this study was to examine the psychological consequences of online child sexual abuse (CSA) and explore possible differences between victims of online abuse and victims who experienced both online and offline sexual abuse. We found that online CSA may lead to a wide range of psychological symptoms. The results, hence, tentatively contradicts the notion that non-contact abuse should be viewed as less severe than contact abuse. In light of the rapidly growing number of online sexual offences, it is high time to start taking these crimes seriously and provide the victims with the justice they deserve, and offer them the support that they might need. https://osf.io/dcjgs/
