Sammanfattning

Transnational and other types of migration processes are deeply gendered phenomena and the experiences of actors involved in these processes are shaped by their genders (Donaldson, Hibbins, Howson & Pease 2009). Therefore, the presented paper will focus on the intersections between transnational migration processes and men and masculinities. In the first part of the paper gendered aspects of migrations processes will be outlined, both in historical and contemporary perspectives. This will be followed by a brief comparison between transnational and other types of migration processes (e.g. local, intra- European etc.) and their influence of shaping men’s lives and masculinity constructions as well as the analysis of transnational male migrant experiences and positioning in the host society from an intersectional perspective (Hearn, Blagojevic & Harrison 2013). Such discussion is necessary as transnational male migrants are not a homogeneous group and the status of certain migrants e.g. male refuges and so called “international expats” differs tremendously. Hence, in the core of the analysis such factors as race, class, ethnic background, religion, sexualities and age will be taken under consideration.
