Sammanfattning

Three interlinked studies at a Swedish Child and Adolescent Psychiatric mental health clinic (CAP - BUP Gamlestaden, Gothenburg) are presented. a) Clinicians administer a short questionnaire at intake; Partner Violence Screening (PVS), consisting of three questions about occurrence of violence in current and former partner relations. Also Life Incidence of Traumatic Events (LITE), a self-report questionnaire for children that assesses the occurrence of several types of traumatic events, including physical and sexual abuse in the family, is administered. The aim is to identify what percentage of CAP patients age 9 - 17 have been exposed to family violence and to which types of violence they have been exposed. b) Structured risk/protection assessments are tried out for children and parents identified as violence exposed. The questions here pertain to the effectiveness of risk/protection assessments according to CAP staff, patients, and parents, and whether children and parents feel that the risk/protection assessment has had any impact on the child’s exposure to violence and/or treatment during the period. c) Two treatment methods, Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavior Therapy (TF-CBT) and Attachment Based Family Therapy (ABFT), are compared to treatment as usual (TAU) for patients who have been exposed to family violence. A general outline of the study design and some preliminary results will be presented.
