Contemporary legal rules are not quite resonant with digitalization and Artificial Intelligence. This is a problem that developers and researchers within AI are experiencing first-hand. Legal researchers also feel that law in its traditional form is not impacting on AI and digitalization in the same way it does in other societal fields. Our challenge is to understand why the law is lacking traction in the regulation of AI and digitalization.

Within a larger project, Gregor Noll has thought about that question. At this event, he intend to offer a simple framework for a better understanding of the problem, and sketch up pathways towards a solution.

Gregor Noll is a professor in international law and the current holder of the Torsten Söderberg Research Chair at the Gothenburg School of Business, Economics and Law. He is researching the relationship of neurotechnology and algorithmic systems to international law. Together with a multidisciplinary team, he has recently published War and Algorithm (Rowman & Littlefield 2019).
