Abstract

This poster submission concerns a research proposal. A longitudinal study of stability and change in cognitive, social and emotional development, was started in 1981/1982. So far each of the participating 145 children has been visited 30 times over a 22 year period. In the last wave of data collection 130 of the young adults participated. The proposed research concerns further analysis of the data obtained in the project so far. In addition, we hope to perform another follow-up when the young adults are 24-25 years old. The overall aims of the analysis and follow up are to investigate: (1) the identity at young adulthood, especially identity status and important contexts for identity development (2) the importance of previous psychological development for the identity at young adulthood. As we have followed these subjects since they were 1-2 years old, we have a unique opportunity to investigate their trajectories from childhood into young adulthood. We are especially interested in self-esteem, personality and the possible importance of so called critical events during this period of the life cycle (like the death of somebody close, divorce, or a life threatening illness). We are planning on using both interviews and questionnaires in the study.
