Abstract

This is one of eight reports form the first part of our project on 'Changing Knowledge and Disciplinary Boundaries Through Integrative Research Methods in the Social Sciences and Humanities'. They seek to identify the current barriers to greater integration between the Humanities and Social Sciences by focusing on the following topics: 1. The relationship between state and education 2. Infrastructural definitions of the social sciences and humanities in higher education 3. Disciplinization: process and problematics 4. Changes in disciplinization: two case studies 5. The establishment and legitimation of professional identities in academe 6. Current debates about the construction of knowledge in the social sciences and humanities and the impact of these on disciplinization 7. Interdisciplinarity 8. The impact of the Bologna process on disciplinization
