A multitude of video, sound, text files that are the result of the Akie language documentation project which has started in 2009 and came to an end in May 2019. This project was originally related to the "Language of Tanzania" GU-University of Dar es Salaam cooperation which was funded by SIDA/SAREC. After Karsten's retirement in Gothenburg Volkswagen Foundation made generous funding of the project "The Akie language - documenting a critically endangered language" available. The documentation data which was recorded present a wide collection of orature material such as folk stories, oral traditions, songs, dances, and the latter's translation in Swahili. The Akie speech community comprises of approx. 200 Akie speakers, but only some fifty are still language experts and guardians of the Akie language. In view of this situation Akie belongs to the nearly moribund languages of Tanzania.
