Abstract

Learner self-assessment is increasingly felt to be an important feature of modern learning and teaching methodologies. This select re-publication of an earlier paper, published by the International Association of Teachers of English as a Foreign Language (IATEFL), reviews arguments behind this development and also describes a variety of research and development activities in different parts of the world. It concludes with a summary of experiences and also highlights important aims in further work.
