The vegetation of the sandy ecosystems of the Curonian Spit is described. Focus is on plants absent from of or rare in Sweden, including Linaria loeselii, endemic to the sandy shores of the south-eastern part of the Baltic Sea, and Tragopogon heterospermus, which reaches its western limit in the Curonian area. Also discussed are the occurrence of adventive species such as Centaurea stoebe and the dune invasive Gypsophila paniculata as well as the management and tree plantations to control the moving sands on the Curonian Spit. In this context also the occurrence of the grass Agropyron dasyanthum, introduced to reduce sand drift, is discussed.
