Abstract

This paper, based on fieldwork undertaken in second-hand shops and private homes in Gothenburg, Sweden, unpacks the different associative complexes surrounding the common Swedish notion that second-hand things "have souls", or are "soulful", and traces their relationship to practices of care, alternative forms of heritage and ethical consumption.
