Agility has become a critical management concern as organizations face increased globalization, fierce competition, constantly changing customer needs and rapid technological development. In this context, IT can both enable and/or impede agility. Even though IT is considered paramount to the firm’s agility, we know little about how IT should operate in order to contribute to organizational agility. In this paper we propose and evaluate a framework for IT agility based on a comprehensive literature review. The framework is evaluated through a survey directed towards IT professionals in organizations in Sweden. Provided the reported increased need for IT agility we argue that the framework is an important contribution to the field and discuss future avenues of research.
