In this article the materials used for clothing in Scandinavia are examined from a variety of written sources such as wills and bills of sale. The article starts with a short presentation and discussion of the various kinds of documents used. Then it continues with the results of the study, starting with textiles and then continuing with furs. The development over time is considered after that and, finally, differences in respect to gender and social status.
