Abstract

In this article I do three things. First I present some challenges to the hegemonic liberal distinction between religion and politics that has been issued from a quite unexpected perspective; namely, some radical and atheistic philosophers. Second, I turn from philosophy to an interpretation of religion and society in modernity that tries to show how this liberal distinction between private and public has, for theological reasons, been inherently unstable from the beginning. Third, I conclude by posing some challenges to theology from this new post-secular situation.
