Abstract

The zero relativizer (as in "People _ I know") is found only in English and in Nordic languages. By means of the ICLE corpus of learner essays, the article investigates to what extent advanced learners with other than Nordic mother tongues (German and Italian) succeed in acquiring and using this construction.
