Abstract

In this chapter we draw some conclusions about the IEP’s future in a multi-level multi-actor context where it is being developed and used. The fact that in Europe there is a new governance layer above the nation-state and the implementation of the Bologna process which some see as a European response to globalisation of higher education has an obvious influence over the future development of the IEP that is analysed in this concluding chapter. The EUA is today playing a role as one of the actors of the European higher education policies and participates as an active stakeholder in the implementation of the Bologna process and the definition of the European quality evaluation procedures for higher education. We demonstrate that the EUA has relied strongly on the IEP to support its legitimacy as an expert organisation in the area of higher education quality evaluation.
