More than half of the working women who saw a doctor because of physical or mental problems, did this due to perceived stress inflicted by increased work strain. Nearly as many stated stress due to difficulty in setting limits and due to high individual demands. These results show that it is important to ask about both work and person related factors, and whether the person experiences stress because of said factors. For the health care centres to identify those who risk unhealth and sickness absence early and offer them preventive measures, the Work Stress Questionnaire (WSQ) could be used. The WSQ is easy to manage and a self-administered questionnaire, which could be used at an early stage when the target group comes to see a doctor.
