Global Engagement

The University of Gothenburg is characterised by a strong social responsibility and global commitment, and we strive to educate democratic social citizens with a respect for fundamental values such as human freedom and human rights. As a part of that commitment, the University organise open lectures and seminars on this theme, like Global Week and Global Challenges.

Global Challenges - open seminars

The aim of the Global Challenges seminars is to give students and staff an understanding of global challenges and processes, and thereby also the tools needed to contribute towards democratic social development. The seminars will be held twice a year and will be open to all students and staff, but other interested parties are also welcome to attend.

Refugees: The Role of the University of Gothenburg

At present, about 65 million people are refugees. In order to handle the present situation and ensure sustainable ways forward, there is a great need for research and education. Education is of crucial importance to both the individual and the future of war-torn nations. Research generates new knowledge, which needs to be disseminated and put to practical use in various ways.

As a university, we have a responsibility to safeguard values such as academic freedom, humanism and human rights. We have a responsibility to contribute with our knowledge as an education provider and as a research institution, but also as an employer.
