About Tarja Karlsson Häikiö

Tarja Karlsson Häikiö is a PhD in Art History and Visual Sciences (2007) and Professor/Docent in Visual and Material Culture (2016/2018) at the Pedagogical Unit:Visual Arts and Sloyd Education. Karlsson Häikiö works at HDK-Valand, Academy of Art and Design at the Artistic Faculty at the University of Gothenburg as a researcher and teacher educator and holds the title of Excellent teacher (2021).

She works with postgraduate education of doctoral students and teacher education with students from preschool, compulsory school and upper secondary education up to higher arts education. Her research areas are visual arts education, child and youth culture, assessment and documentation, professionalisation and higher arts education. Karlsson Häikiö has had several assignments for the Swedish National Agency for Education and has led the production of Assessment Guides in the subject visual arts grades 4-6 and 7-9 and a Mapping material regarding newly arrived students' knowledge in visual arts.

She is the project leader of the National Graduate School in Visual arts and Sloyd education, FoBoS (https://www.gu.se/fobos). She is leader of the research platform ERA - Educational Research in the Arts at the Artistic Faculty (https://www.gu.se/forskning/era-educational-research-in-the-arts). She is commissioner the Research Council and the responsible for the research cluster Environment: Ecology and Climate Challenges at HDK-Valand (Forskningskluster: Miljö, ekologi och klimatutmaningar – Medarbetarportalen (gu.se)). Between the years 2018-2022 she had an assignment as Vice Dean of Education at the Artistic Faculty.
