About Ulrika Hedman

I am administrator at the SOM Institute. I have also written a dissertation on journalism and social media.

In my PhD project I studied how journalists adopt social media – how they use social media and how this change over time, how they percieve professional norms and practices in relation to social media and how this change over time, and how journalists enact ”the journalist” on these new platforms.

I also blog on journalism, media, media research, my research, etc. The blog Eftertänkt is mostly in Swedish.

Previosly, I worked as a newspaper journalist.

Research Areas

I am foremost interested in journalism and news media, but also in social media and various ways of audience participation in journalism. I have a general interest in media development and in media logics.

Teaching

During my PhD studies, I have lectured on ”Social media in journalism”, a practical and theoretical oriented course for journalism students. I have also lectured on theoretical views on the profession of journalism, and supervised student’s thesis work.
