About Therese Andersson

General

I finished my doctoral thesis – entitled Beauty Box: Film Stars and Beauty Culture in Early 20th Century Sweden - in Cinema Studies in 2006 at Stockholm University. Between 2007-2009, I worked with the postdoc project Sofia Coppola's Marie Antoinette, made possible by a grant from the Anna Ahlström and Ellen Terserus Foundation. Since 2010 I have been engaged with the project Velcro, Button and Zip: Power and Materiality during Styling and Dressing, funded by the Bank of Sweden Tercentenary Foundation.

Research

In my research I am inspired by the thematic versatility of cultural studies: the theoretical complexity, and interdisciplinary analytical approaches. My research focuses on popular culture, and I move between fields such as film, television, celebrity- and star studies, as well as fashion and dress research. I have edited the book Heroes and Heroines: Concepts and Depictions from The Eufemia Songs to Gösta Berling's Saga (2012), and was guest editor of the issue "Fashion, Market and Materiality" for Culture Unbound: Journal of Current Cultural Research (2011).

Teaching

I have taught in various areas of film studies and cultural studies, as well as in fields such as fashion studies, media and communication studies and history.

External Relations and Research Information

I have, as an invited lecturer, presented my research in various public contexts, and assisted with expertise in different media contexts such as Dagens Nyheter, Tidningen Apoteket and Your Life.
