Global cooperation in a polarized time

Research profile seminar

Meet Ulrika Modéer, Assistant Secretary General, Director of External Relations and Advocacy vid United Nations Development Program (UNDP), alumn from the University of Gothenburg ahonorary doctor of the Faculty of Social Sciences of 2019. Together with a renowned panel Ulrika Modéer will discuss conditions for multilateral cooperation in our times.

Global and multilateral cooperation is more important than ever. There is an urgent need for common initiatives and solutions in order to manage common global challenges, such as Agenda 2030, climate change, wars and conflicts, poverty, abuse of human rights and migration issues. At the same time, an increasing number of governments are openly critical against multilateral cooperation and instead argue for unilateral action. Power positions and geopolitics are under tranformation with possible challenges against norms and values being upheld by multilateral organizations. What does this mean for the potential of global and multilateral cooperation?

How can multilateral cooperation be promoted and
transformed in those troubled times?
