OPEN POSITIONS Postdoctor in molecular asthma immunology

Krefting Research Centre, Institute of Medicine, University of Gothenburg, is recruiting a post-doctoral researcher for a 2-year contract. Krefting Research Centre ( is a centre funded by the VBG Group Herman Krefting Foundation for Asthma and Allergy Research. The main research at the Krefting Research Center focuses on asthma and allergies, and includes basic inflammation research, clinical studies and population-based studies. The basis for the research is the ongoing "West Sweden Asthma Study", one of Europe's largest population-based studies of asthma that was started in 2008 in Västra Götaland.

Over 20 researchers and research nurses work at Krefting Research Centre, divided into research areas epidemiology of asthma and mechanistic studies of inflammation in asthma and allergy. The recruited post-doctoral researcher will be supervised by one of the group leaders at Krefting Research Centre, Senior Lecturer Madeleine Rådinger, also responsible for the asthma inflammation research group at Krefting Research Centre. The post-doctoral position is supported by Wallenberg Centre for Molecular and Translational Medicine (WCMTM) (, a recently established centre at the University of Gothenburg funded by the Wallenberg Foundation in cooperation with the Sahlgrenska University Hospital/Västra Götaland Region and AstraZeneca. Therefore, the candidate will have the unique opportunity to collaborate with industrial supervisors in the Research and Early Development, Respiratory, Inflammation and Autoimmune (RIA) BioPharmaceuticals R&D at the AstraZeneca site in Mölndal, Gothenburg. Within this department novel inhaled and biologic treatments are being developed aiming to transform management of respiratory diseases, with focus on asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) and chronic cough.

Subject area

Molecular asthma immunology

Subject area description

Job assignments

The successful candidate will lead the projects undertaken at the Krefting Research Centre and at AstraZeneca in Mölndal. The project aims to investigate the genetic and epigenetic regulation of immune cells from different subgroups of asthma with focus on severe asthma. High-resolution fine mapping of genes, functional genomics and epigenetic regulation of microRNAs will be undertaken. The post holder will be responsible for data analysis and writing the scientific publications emanating from projects undertaken and is expected to present project results at national and international scientific meetings.

To qualify as a postdoctoral researcher the applicant should hold a PhD in a relevant subject. Since postdoctoral constitutes a qualifying appointment for junior researchers, we aim to target those who have a doctoral degree not older than 3 years from the application deadline.

The applicant must have previous experience of translational asthma and immunology research. The applicant should have had hands on experience in the following experimental techniques: cell cultures, genetic analysis, CRISPR-Cas9 methodology, reporter gene assays and real time PCR. Knowledge in bioinformatics and RNA sequencing is a merit. Earlier work in genetic analysis and microRNA field is a merit. Experience of industry collaborations is a merit. Excellent knowledge in written and spoken English are necessary and a proven record of scientific publications in per review scientific international journals is required. The applicant must have a strong sense of teamwork and is driven and willing to work independently.
