About the department

At the Department of Applied Information Technology, critical and interdisciplinary research is conducted in an international environment of the highest quality with great relevance to the surrounding society. Our researchers are in the midst of the debate to help explain and problematize IT- and society-related challenges linked to the digitalization of society.

We develop the individual's knowledge and ability to analyze, understand and handle various aspects of IT as well as the interaction between human and technology in areas such as Artificial Intelligence, blockchain, digital innovation, e-Health, Internet of Things, mobile communication, robots, social media and IT in schools and teaching.
We provide education at Bachelor's and Master's level anchored in research and the development of society.

The department is located at the knowledge-intensive Lindholmen, and has a well-developed collaboration with both business and public sector as well as the civil society.

The purpose of the division is to contribute to a sustainable and serene way of living with technology. In a world where IT is constantly present, it is important to understand this presence and how it affects us.

Job assignments

The duties include teaching in the department’s educational programs, mainly the bachelor program in information systems, but also other university education, both at undergraduate and advanced level, as well as research and work in external and internal assignments in the field of human computer interaction. The tasks include planning, implementation and evaluation of teaching, including managing seminars, course development, course responsibility, supervision and examination. Administrative tasks related to educational activities may also be included. The work is conducted in close cooperation with colleagues in the division and the department.


The eligibility for employment as a teacher is stated in chapter 4, sections 3 - 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance and the University of Gothenburg's employment procedure. Qualifying to be employed is the one who has demonstrated educational skill, has obtained a doctorate or has equivalent scientific competence or any other skill that is important in the view of the content of the employment and the duties that are to be included.


The degree of scientific- and teaching aptitude will be assessed with equal importance.

The assessment of scientific aptitude involves the ability to in an independent manner initiate and conduct research, the ability to collaborate in the organizational development and research and contribute to a research environment within human computer interaction. Scientific excellence should be illustrated through research activities and publishing within relevant fields. Capacity for third-stream activities is also to be demonstrated.

The assessment of teaching aptitude is focused on pedagogical experience deemed to be of relevance to the position. The teaching aptitude should hence primarily relate to courses with a focus on human computer interaction, programming or hitherto closely related areas. The assessment involves planning, execution, evaluation, tutoring and examination. The teaching aptitude should be soundly documented so that quality can be assessed. Formal training in higher education teaching is deemed a merit.

It is meritorious if the applicant masters oral and written Swedish to be able to conduct teaching in Swedish on our programs.

The university will through this recruitment make a holistic assessment of aptitude and skills and select the applicant which is deemed to have the best pre-requisites for fulfilling well the duties involved in the position, for collaborating with other staff and for contributing to a positive development of the division.


The position is a fixed-term employment of 12 months at fulltime, with placement in the Division of Human computer interaction at the Department of Applied Information Technology.
The start date is on 1st of January 2020, or as soon as possible thereafter.
