Subject area description

The school subject physical education and health aims to provide knowledge in, through, and about movement cultures, physical activity and health. The area concerns teaching and learning in the school subject physical education and health. The focus is on didactics in relation to health, movement, and sport in their widest sense.

We are looking for someone who can lead and develop education and research activities in the area. The person will have a number of years’ experience of working in schools with the subject physical education and health and have a specific interest in helping others develop movement competence.

Job assignments

The position involves teaching, research and collaboration with the wider community. A significant portion of duties concern teaching in practical and lecture-based courses, supervision and examination of bachelor dissertations, pedagogical development work, and work in external collaborative assignments. Employment focuses on courses and supervision within the department’s programs in physical education teacher education. Teaching and supervision at post-graduate level may be included in the duties depending on the qualifications of the successful applicant.


To be employed as a senior lecturer, one must have:

- obtained a doctoral degree in sport science/physical education.

- undergone or intend to undergo higher education education or in other documented manner acquired equivalent knowledge.

- demonstrated educational proficiency in the area.


In the assessment of teaching skills, special importance will be given to proven experience in planning, implementing and conducting lectures. The applicant must have completed higher education courses or be able to demonstrate equivalent qualifications. Supervision of undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate levels is an advantage.

In the assessment of scientific proficiency, special attention will be paid to scientific skills demonstrated primarily through publications in peer-reviewed journals in the above mentioned areas. Further attention will be laid on the candidate´s history of external funding grants, presentations at scientific conferences and interaction with the society.

The candidate's personal qualities in being able to collaborate internally and externally and to perform the described tasks will be considered when assessing the suitability for the position.

The candidate is expected to teach in English. Applicants who cannot teach in Swedish will be supported from the department with language courses in order to improve their Swedish skills.

Criteria for employment as a teacher are stated in Chapter 4 3-4 § of the Higher Education Ordinance.
