OPEN POSITIONS PhD Student in Security Assurance in Automotive Systems

The department of Computer Science and Engineering is strongly international, with approximately 240 employees from over 30 countries. The department is a fully integrated department with the University of Gothenburg and Chalmers University of Technology as principals. The position is placed in the Division of Software Engineering at the department, with the University of Gothenburg as the employer.

The successful candidate will conduct research under the supervision of Riccardo Scandariato (http://scandariato.org) and work in tight collaboration with the Software Engineering Division at Chalmers and University of Gothenburg. The position is a fulltime appointment as an academic PhD Student. The position mainly focuses on research but duties may also include the supervision of bachelor and master theses or assisting in teaching. We offer good working conditions (see more information about the terms for PhD Students below) and an inspirering environment.

The position is placed in the Software Engineering Division at the Department of Computer Science and Engineering. You will be embedded in a vibrant and tightly-knit group conducting research in many varied fields of software engineering, including model-driven development, product line engineering, testing, empirical software engineering, requirements engineering, autonomic computing, and cloud computing. Founded in 2010, the division has grown to include more than 20 faculty members. Today, we are arguably one of the largest academic software engineering groups in academia.

Job assignments

The successful candidate will work in the research area of secure software engineering. The position is sponsored by a joint research project between the university and two automotive companies: Volvo and Volvo Cars. The position gives the opportunity to develop theoretical results that can be directly validated in an industrial context.

The overall goal of the project is to provide methods and tools for the vehicle industry to assess whether the products that are released and used on the roads meet the security targets. The key research question is how a project manager can get specific assurance that a product being developed is secure enough and can be released. In practice, we will focus on two aspects: (1) what evidence needs to be collected throughout the software development process, and (2) how to build the security assurance argumentation from the available evidence.

The position requires the successful candidate to conduct high-quality individual research and publish research papers at peer-reviewed venues. The employment focuses mainly on research, but some institutional services occur, for example, supervision of bachelor's degrees and master's theses or assistance in teaching
