OPEN POSITIONS Senior Lecturer in Nutrition oriented towards physiology, PAR 2017/1418

At the Institue of Medicine, Sahlgrenska Academy, there is the Department of Internal Medicine and Clinical Nutrition, which conducts research in several areas such as endocrinology, hematology, gastroenterology, hypertension, pulmonary medicine and allergy and clinical nutrition with research focus on body composition and energy metabolism. The research is carried out in close collaboration with the health care services, for example at Sahlgrenska University Hospital.

Sahlgrenska academy, University of Gothenburg, hosts the training program for dietitians in southern Sweden. The program is four years with admission once per academic year and has about 135 students. After three years, students can obtain registration as dietitians. The program is supervised and examines annually about 40 students and master thesis for about 20 students. Staff at the Department of Internal Medicine and Clinical Nutrition is responsible for most of the teaching in the program. Furthermore, the department participates with lectures and exercises in clinical nutrition in the training of doctors, nurses, midwives, pharmacists, dispensing pharmacists and public health scientists.

Research at the department is funded by national funds and includes methodological and clinical studies, as well as epidemiological research on the relationship between nutrition and health. The department runs a laboratory with a research kitchen, were analyzes of minerals and stable isotopes can be made.

Subject area description

In physiology with nutritional orientation, functions of the body and organ systems of the human body are studied and how these are influenced by diet and physical activity. Interest and understanding of the importance of the diet for health and disease have increased significantly in recent years, thus increasing the requirements for guidance on health-promoting eating habits on scientific grounds. 

Job assignments

Teaching and research in the subjects physiology of nutrition, nutrition, food science and biochemistry. Development work, supervision and examination on the basic and advanced educational level and within research. Participate in pedagogical development work and evaluation of all parts of the dietitian education. Lead the development of the unit's laboratory. Initiate and independently run research and development projects within the nutrition field.


PhD degree in medicine, physiology, nutrition or other equivalent life sciences. Documented educational skills.


Pedagogical and scientific skills and experience will be evaluated equally. Experience in research in nutritional physiology and laboratory activities is an important merit. Documented knowledge in food, health and nutrition is meritorious. Documented independent research with own research funding. Particular emphasis is placed on the applicant's collaborative ability and inclusive working methods. Administrative properties. As teaching is conducted in Swedish, good knowledge of Swedish language and ability to express themselves in Swedish is needed.


The employment is a full time, temporary post for up to 2 years and is located at The Institute of Medicine.

First day of employment is by agreement.
