Santander Group

The Santander Group is a European Universities Network composed of 34 universities founded in May 1992 in Spain with the aim of establishing special academic, cultural and socio-economic ties and of setting up specific and advanced facilities as well as privileged channels of information and exchange.

The Group was also created to encourage contacts between universities and their surrounding communities or regions on matters related to social and technological development. There is a particular emphasis on activities in Latin America and the Mediterranean.

A secretariat is located in Brussels.

Examples of activities taking place in the network include:

  • Mobility programmes
  • Regional cooperation in Latin America and the Mediterranean
  • Summer schools
  • Task forces in the following areas:
        -  Doctoral education
        -  Cooperation in the Mediterranean
        -  Cooperation in Latin America
        -  Bologna process
        -  Science education
        -  Research
