A sustainable university
The University of Gothenburg aims to be one of the leading universities within sustainable development. Almost 300 freestanding courses and 45 study programmes at the university address environmental concerns and sustainable development in some form.
A globally responsible university
The University of Gothenburg has a long tradition of global perspectives and hosting international activities within and beyond Europe. For example, our multidisciplinary School of Global Studies focuses on human rights, peace and development research, social anthropology, global gender, and similar issues.
The university coordinates the Swedish section of the international network Scholars at Risk, which promotes academic freedom around the world.

We take care of our new students. Our welcome programme of events and activities provides international students with practical information about the university and living in Gothenburg. It is also a perfect opportunity to meet other international students and volunteer “student buddies” from around the world.
In the International Student Barometer 2019, the University of Gothenburg received the highest marks in Europe and fifth globally when it comes to arrival and how the students are welcomed.

EMREX - digital transfer of credits
We are connected to the service EMREX, an open source software that enables digital transferring of student credits between higher education institutions. All our partner institutions and other higher education institutions world wide are welcome to implement EMREX for fast and digital transfer of student data.
