Exchange studies at the Academy of Music and Drama
As an exchange student at the Academy of Music and Drama you study together with our regular programme students. If you are accepted as an exchange student, you will follow the courses within the programme you have been accepted to (30 ECTS per semester).
All our programmes are open for exchange students, but some programmes require Scandinavian language skills, see information under Language requirements. You can apply for exchange studies either for an autumn semester, spring semester or for a full academic year at the Academy of Music and Drama.
We accept exchange student applications from all Erasmus+ programme eligible institutions. We also accept exchange applications from institutions which have bilateral agreements with the Academy of Music and Drama or with the University of Gothenburg.

Admittance is based on available study places for the chosen programme and the level of your audition performance recording.
In order to apply for exchange studies at the Academy of Music and Drama, we require a nomination from your home university.
Partner universities nominate incoming students by sending an email to Jenny Hedlund, jenny.hedlund@hsm.gu.se.
The nomination should include:
- Name and email of the student
- Clearly state what programme the student is interested in
Deadline:
- Autumn semester/spring semester/full year: Application process open 15 February - 1 April
- Spring semester only: Application process open 1 September 1 – 15 November
The official language of instruction in most of our bachelor's programmes is Swedish. However, most students, teachers and staff speak English and at least a summary of the different courses will be given to you in English. Hence, if you have good knowledge in English there won't be any problem for you to take part in the education. See exception for certain programmes below.
English is the official language of instruction for our bachelor’s programme in classical performance (music) as well as for all of our master’s programmes.
Exchange applicants are not required to submit proof of their proficiency in English. They are however expected to have an adequate level of proficiency in English.

- BA Acting
- BA Individual Performance
- BA Musical Theatre
- BA Music and Sound Production
- Teacher Education Programmes in Dance and Drama
