Refunds of tuition fees

In some circumstances, it is possible to apply for a tuition fee refund if you are unable to carry out your studies at the University of Gothenburg. More information about reasons for granting a tuition fee refund and the application process are found below.

Reasons for granting a tuition fee refund

Reasons for granting a tuition fee refund includes the following:

  • You have been denied a residence permit for studies by the Swedish Migration Agency and could not participate in studies
  • You have personal reasons such as serious illness or illness in the family.
  • Extraordinary circumstances that prevents you from participating in studies.

Apply for a refund

An individual assessment is always made to determine whether a refund of the tuition fee can be granted. If a tuition fee refund is granted, the University of Gothenburg will reserve the right to retain 9000 SEK for administrative expenses.

The administrative fee applies to tuition fee refunds for autumn semester 2021 an onwards. No fee will be charged for tuition fee refunds made for study semesters prior to autumn semester 2021.

To apply for a tuition fee refund, you must make an official request to the tuition fee team via tuitionfees@gu.se. You must be able to provide documents verifying the reason for the request. You must also be able to prove that the refund is made to the same bank account from which the payment was originally made.

COVID-19

In cases related to COVID-19, students who have paid the tuition fee and who do not register for and/or attend classes are entitled to a tuition fee refund.
