Social Science as Expertise and Social Scientists as Experts
About
What is the role of social science experts in the government of society? How do these experts draw the line between scientific questions and political questions? This course introduces you to the demands and responsibilities facing social scientists offering qualified advice to public and private organizations. We will also discuss the ways in which the quality and legitimacy of social scientific expertise is assured and subjected to public scrutiny.
Prerequisites and selection
Requirements
To be eligible to follow the course 15 credits in Sociology at the advanced level is required or equivalent. Applicants must prove their knowledge of English: English 6/English B from Swedish Upper Secondary School or the equivalent level of an internationally recognized test, for example TOEFL, IELTS.
Selection
Selection is based upon the number of credits from previous university studies, maximum 165 credits.
Facilities
Teaching takes place in the premises of the Faculty of Social Sciences in the Haga district in central Gothenburg. Lectures and seminars within "Campus Haga" are held in the buildings Dragonen and Sappören (Sprängkullsgatan) as well as Husaren (Husargatan).
