MFAMILY: European Master in Social Work with Families and Children

This Erasmus Mundus master's programme aims to enhance postgraduate students’ employability through the improvement of skills and knowledge in order to match the needs of EU actions to protect children from violence and other vulnerabilities as well as to work with the pressure on modern families.

What is MFAMILY?

Erasmus Mundus is an EU programme developed to offer education to the best students from all over the world. Four universities from four countries are part of our master’s programme in Social Work with Families and Children: The University of Gothenburg; University Institute of Lisbon; the University of Stavanger; and Makerere University. You will spend a semester each in Lisbon, Stavanger, and Gothenburg before moving to your desired partner institution to work on your master’s thesis. This programme aims to enhance your employability through the improvement of skills and knowledge in order to match the needs of EU actions to protect children from violence and other vulnerabilities and to work with the pressure on modern families.

Providing a unique skillset

The aim of the programme is to enable you to work effectively with families and children in a changing global context and prepare you for careers in social work and social policy with governmental and non-governmental organizations, international organizations, and private practice. You will be updated on the latest research and practices on social work interventions for vulnerable children and families. Upon completion of the programme, you will hold unique competences that are demanded from local and national governmental institutions as well as from NGOs and private actors in the field of social work and social welfare. As one of the partnering universities, the University of Gothenburg contributes with excellent standards of teaching and research expertise on themes focused on family issues and the rights of the children, on migration and globalization processes dealing with children and families, and on social work and social research methods.
