About

The course provides a thorough introduction to Latin America with a combined social science and humanistic perspective. In this course, you will learn about Latin American history from the first population process up to the present day with respect to social, political, and economic development. During the course, we will examine the historical development related to contemporary conditions and events. The aim of the course is to provide you with knowledge and understanding of the emergence and demarcation of the concept of Latin America. 

Online teaching in Latin American Studies takes the form of individual assignments mostly in the form of written essays or participation in online debates. All the assignments are given proper feedback from the teachers so that you can develop your analytical and writing skills. Films or filmed lectures are also part of the material that you receive during this course.

Selection

Selection is based upon average grade from upper secondary school (34 %), the number of credits from previous university studies, maximum 165 credits (33 %) and Högskoleprovet - Swedish Scholastic Aptitude Test (33 %).

After graduation

The course gives you a profound knowledge of Latin America that can complement your studies in other subjects within the social sciences, economy, or language. The course also gives you competencies that may be useful in international work, information, and educational occupations and in the tourist industry.
