Introduction to Contemporary Art and Health
Summary
Introduction to Arts and Health is a new and innovative course that includes, but moves beyond narrow ideas of art therapy to provide students with an understanding of contemporary discourses and practices of the arts and health field. The course explores competing models of art practice in healthcare settings: including art and well-being, environmental design and participatory culture.
About
The unique nature of this course is its interdisciplinary approach, as it brings together experts on issues of health and arts practices and is open to students with an arts practice background and/or professional healthcare experience.
The course is designed to be of use both for students who have not undertaken work in this area and for those who are already doing so but would like the opportunity to learn more about this field of practice.
By the end of the course students will be expected to demonstrate an understanding of the development, delivery and evaluation of the impact of arts and health practice and the ethical implications of artists working in healthcare contexts. It is expected that students will be able to produce a case study or visual essay that identifies the ways in which arts and health as an interdisciplinary practice necessitates an understanding of arts practice and the specificity of healthcare contexts responsive and sensitive to the perspectives and experience of healthcare users.
Introduction to Arts and Health is entirely online and will be taught via the zoom platform.
