From an interdisciplinary perspective, the course focuses on relevant current issues of global politics and research, such as borders, mobility and violence. If you are looking for a course that examines current issues in globalization from a variety of perspectives, and are interested in developing your writing skills, this course will fit your needs.

The course focuses on current issues, and thus the themes change from year to year. The main aim of the course is to situate some of the theories about globalization taught in the previous course in specific cases, illuminating some of the pressing issues of our time while discussing how they can be analysed using the different theoretical approaches towards globalization. The course provides thematic lectures from different academic perspectives; for example, mobility is examined from the point of view of international relations, social anthropology, and human ecology.

In the first part of the course, you will discuss the themes in individual assignments. In the second part, you will prepare “conference papers” to be presented at the end of the course. The papers will focus on a particular, locally situated, case, and analyse it with the help of the three themes and their interconnectedness.
