On this page you find information about the entry requirements, selection criteria and application process for the Master's Programme in Global Studies.
Entry requirements
The minimum entry requirements for the Master´s Programme in Global Studies are:

a Bachelor’s degree (180 credits) or equivalent
- a minimum of 30 credits in a discipline within the field of Global Studies* or the equivalent
- and English proficiency English B/6 level or equivalent, internationally recognised English tests are also accepted. More information about the English requirements is found at the www.universityadmissions.se.
Selection criteria
In addition to documents related to the entry requirements (i.e. transcript, degree, and certification that you meet the language requirement) you must upload a Statement of Intent. The Statement of Intent must be uploaded on www.universityadmissions.se in early February for the first admission round, or in early May for the second admission round (no later than May 10).
Please use the assigned form below. Your Statement of Intent should address the questions in the form, and be well structured and written, in clear and concise language. No documents from previous applications will be considered. The Statement of Intent should be written in English.
Application
The Master´s Programme in Global Studies starts every autumn semester and there are two application rounds for the programme. Please note that there is one application code for the first period, and another for the second. Only the code corresponding to the current application period is open.
All documents must be submitted according to the instructions at www.universityadmissions.se and/or www.antagning.se.
If you are unsure of what documents to submit, please read above under "Entry requirements" and "Selection". We will not consider or review any letters of recommendation, and please do not forget to submit your Statement of Intent.
All questions concerning the technical part of your application will be answered by the University Admissions.
All questions regarding admission will be answered by the Admission Office at the University of Gothenburg.
Applications for the Master´s Programme in Global Studies are reviewed by the Admissions Office at the University of Gothenburg. Assessments of qualifications equivalent of subjects within the field of global studies are due to individual assessments as part of the regular admissions procedures. The Admissions Office and the School of Global Studies are unable to make any assessments in advance.
Admission to the programme is in part based on your degree work. You do not have to have completed your Bachelor’s degree when you apply. You must, however, meet the requirements when the programme begins.
First application round for non-Swedish applicants
Mid-October – mid-January
Non-Swedish applicants are:
- EEA students (EU Member States and Iceland, Norway and Liechtenstein)
- non-EEA students who require a visa to Sweden
EEA students or non-EEA students apply at www.universityadmissions.se. Do not forget to pay the application fee. Application fee does not apply for EU/EEA citizens or exchange students.
Second application round for Swedish and EEA applicants
Mid-March – mid-April
This application period is open for:

Swedish students
- EEA students (EU Member States and Iceland, Norway and Liechtenstein)
Swedish students or EEA students apply at www.antagning.se (in Swedish) or www.universityadmissions.se (in English).
Application fee does not apply for EU/EEA citizens or exchange students.
