Craft and Design with Specialisation in Metal 2
This is a freestanding course in which students have the opportunity to implement their own project studies related to metal as a material.
In the course, you will have the opportunity to apply knowledge and understanding of metalworking materials and techniques in one or several independent projects.
In the projects, you will explore and examine various metalworking methods and techniques, both in terms of proficiency and expression, through different assignments and themes that use the concepts of materials, body and space as a starting point. You will be given the means for developing working methods and reflection on your own work and for communicating your choice of methods, both in writing and orally. The presentations are an important part of the course, as the ongoing work is presented and discussed on a regular basis. The course might also give you opportunities to attend workshops, lectures and practice exercises with supervision, related to your project.
The course is part of the international environment at HDK-Valand–Academy of Art and Design at Steneby, Dals Långed. The language of instruction is English. If you are a Swedish speaking student, you can perform a few modules in Swedish, if you wish to. Applications can be submitted in English or Swedish.
Admissions are made subject to availability in our workshops.

Due to the current situation, the education at HDK-Valand this autumn will be carried out to a limited extent on campus. This means that courses will be held both through distance education and on site in workshops and student workplaces. We are awaiting instructions regarding the spring semester 2021.
A decision will be made by the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Gothenburg in November on the basis of recommendations from the Public Health Agency of Sweden due to Covid-19. This means that we, for the time being, cannot say with certainty which parts of the education will take place on campus during the spring and which will be given through distance education. We also want to inform you that certain courses, or course elements, may not be completed during the spring semester 2021. Stay updated about the University of Gothenburg's guidelines due to the Corona pandemic here.
